PAR stands for Planed All Round, timber that has been machined smooth on all four faces to a consistent, accurate finish. It is also commonly referred to as PSE (Planed Square Edge). Unlike sawn timber which has a rough surface, PAR arrives ready to use with no further preparation needed.
The nominal size of 25 x 100mm refers to the sawn size before planing. The actual finished size is approximately 20-21mm x 94-95mm after planing. Always work from the finished size when planning joints, housings or fitting to existing work.
This is untreated PAR timber intended for interior joinery and finishing applications. It is not suitable for outdoor or exposed use without additional treatment. For exterior applications, a pre-treated timber should be specified.
Yes. PAR timber arrives with a smooth, clean surface ready to accept paint, stain or varnish directly. No sanding or surface preparation is required before applying a finish, making it ideal for interior joinery where a quality finish is important.
Sawn timber is cut to size but left with a rough surface and variable dimensions. PAR timber is planed on all four faces to a smooth, consistent finish and accurate size.
PAR is specified where appearance and precision matter, interior joinery, furniture and finishing work. Sawn timber is used where structural performance matters more than finish, carcassing, framing and roofing.
